Uisce Salach (Dirty Water)
This one-day Acouscenic Listening workshop and creative sound walk hosted by Softday (Sean Taylor and Mikael Fernström) will focus on the study of Acouscenic Listening, creative soundwalking and the meditative practices of Tai Chi/Qigong. The workshop is intended to enhance participant’s perception of sound and silence, offering a unique approach for engaging soundscapes, in the Dublin Docklands/Port, area. These strategies are designed to enhance our skills in mindfulness, listening, and attuning to place, body and voice as instruments of creativity and well-being. Participants will practice techniques, energy exercises and sonic meditations developed by Softday that help to locate active listeners as creative co-authors in sonically mapping the unique soundscapes of Dublin port and the River Liffey.
This workshop will introduce participants to psychogeography, dérieve and explore and contextualise Acouscenic Listening as both a creative soundwalk practice and tool. The practice of Acouscenic Listening draws upon and combines tested methodologies from a range of non-art practices such as Acoustic Ecology, Deep Listening, Creative Soundwalks, Mindfulness, Improvisation and Tai Chi/Qigong exercises, in order to articulate a personal position in this area of research through the realisation of creative art works.
We also invite participants to actively engage with the Uisce Salach project, through the use of water testing kits. We hope to do an analysis of all samples and take the data from the water samples and make a map, as well as making sound and music from the water tests data.
